Hello, I'm New Here
|
My name is Salem. Some (?) of you may have seen me at the two most recent AC gatherings. I currently live in the Miami area in Florida. I'm not sure if this forum was the correct place to post this, but here goes: The reason I joined here is because I've been thinking about moving to Pennsylvania. First reason is because most of my friends live in the neighbouring states, and I'd be in between. Second reason is because there are tons of job openings in the Philadelphia area (compared to Miami). The third and final reason is because I've lived in Miami for 19 years and I just hate it here... Especially because of the fact that finding employment here is very difficult. I've been currently unemployed for the past 11 months. Fun huh? Anyway, I'd like to move to PA (specifically in Philadelphia, but I'm not picky as long as it's in PA!) and am wondering if you guys might be able to give me some advice for landing a job and a place in the area? I would greatly appreciate it. And no, I currently don't have the funds to get up and move out yet. I'm working on that (trying to get a job here to pick up the money). And to make things clear, I'm not asking anyone for money, heh. I'd just like some advice. Well, my contact information is in my profile if you guys would like to chat privately. I love meeting new people, and I don't bite. Much. I'll be checking in for responses, thanks again! ~Salem |

One thing that we suck less at than most other cities is public transportation. There are several "regional rail" lines which provide train service from the suburbs to Center City. I live in the suburbs but work in the city, and was actually able to sell my car due to the availability of public transit. See http://www.septa.org/ for more info.
Also, we have PhillyCarShare for short-term car needs. It rocks.
